Arrived in Nepal

I woke up to the upbeat vocal melodies of Billy Joel’s classic song, “Uptown girl.” The tune put me in a good mood to start the day. Well, to start the next part of our 30 hours of travel time to get to Nepal. I slept briefly, as the sun’s journey east combined with our plane’s movement west, causing the sun to set at 8pm and rise a mere two hours later. We arrived in Kathmandu at 8:30 PM on Saturday. Since then, our daily afternoon naps have diluted any jet lag we would have felt.

Leaving Asheville marked a mix of emotions. I would describe it as a combination of excitement and nostalgia. When we get back, we will only have a couple weeks to see family and friends before we leave again, this time for college; however, we are thankful and excited for the next five weeks. We have spent the last few days acclimatizing to life here in Nepal. Sun streams our window by 5am each morning. The people are really nice, the city is fairly polluted, and large mountains rise in the distance. We have spent time with our friends Jay and Aileen, figuring out how to work most effectively. We are happy to be here and thrilled for this opportunity to help.
