Falling

Falling

I could feel my heart thumping in my chest as I stood on the edge of the precipice looking down 500 feet. The narrow paths in the high Andes Mountains connect one incredible ruin to another with shear drop offs and no railings. This is where the Incas built their homes, forts and temples, and we been exploring these inspiring ruins throughout the Sacred Valley. Only I have a fear of heights.  At times when traversing the steep mountainsides I can hardly move, nearly paralyzed with fear.  Meanwhile Carrie and the boys skip along the path like they were at the grocery store.

My brother said that he doesn’t feel like he is living if he doesn’t sign a liability waiver for some activity at least once a year.  There are no waivers in Peru.

We all have fears. Occasionally we stumble or fall. In November I lost my job suddenly. It felt like someone had kicked me in the gut.  In truth, although it was not what I expected, it was an answer to prayer. God has guided our every step. Doors have opened.  Opportunities availed themselves. Granted, not always on our timing (that’s where the faith part comes in). We are learning to put every decision, every problem, every plan, and every action into his hands. It is not always easy, but the journey is rich, rewarding, and right. (Isaiah 40:29-31)

I can see Adam and Benjamin growing taller as you write your comments on this wonderful trip and the great pictures. Especially the ones of the 4 of you with the backgrounds as you travel. Love it. We are following your adventure with pleasure.
