Introduction to Our Trip to Nepal

Hi! Welcome to our blog! My friend Dawson and I (Adam) will be volunteering for five weeks in Nepal this summer. Our departure is fast approaching; we leave on June 26 and return August 3.

Dawson and I share a passion for travel, adventure, and community service. With this trip, we are combining those interests. We both recently graduated from high school. I will be attending Georgetown University and Dawson will attend Pratt Institute in the fall. We both want the summer between high school and college to be about helping others and full of purpose. Previous international experiences have instilled in us a global awareness.

Even before the earthquake, Nepal had many needs. Now, more than ever, there are many needs to be met. Dawson and I will be working with MedicMobile or an affiliate nonprofit for the duration of our time in Nepal. We will most likely be living in a tent for the majority of our time in Nepal. Our work may involve lots of hiking in remote places. What we may do includes: supporting mobile reporting in remote health posts, manual labor, telling the stories of those affected by the earthquake, and documenting the deployment of reporting tools and supporting health posts that have been destroyed and are operating out of temporary facilities.

We will also have to deal with the rain (July is Nepal’s wet season), potential earthquake tremors, disease, and apparently a lot of snakes.

Our international experience and previous trekking experiences have prepared us well for the upcoming challenges. We are taking a two-day first-aid course before we depart as well. We also have several connections in Nepal who can aid us. To help offset the costs of the trip, we have created a campaign on Indiegogo. Please help support us as we travel by following our blog, spreading the word about what we are doing, and donating to our campaign.(https://www.indiegogo.com/projects/youth-serving-in-nepal/x/10958622#/)

Thanks and we look forward to keeping you updated!
